Another OWI
Jeremy knew he shouldn’t drink and drive. But he didn’t feel that he drank that much. He thought it was safe to pass but then saw a motorcycle was coming right at him. Jeremy swerved out of the way but his friend in the passenger seat was severely hurt and almost died.
Jeremy’s parents were very disappointed with him. Jeremy had done wrong but he needed an opportunity for treatment—not prolonged incarceration.
Jeremy needed help. The most urgent was treatment for his abuse of chemicals. But Jeremy also needed advocacy at sentencing.
We helped Jeremy get letters from his teachers and relatives. That plus Jeremy’s willingness to accept responsibility and make amends resulted in him getting a short jail term rather than a lengthy prison sentence.
