CHAD’S DRUG STORY
Chad knew drugs were bad but thought he would just try it once. But it didn’t stop there. One day a friend asked him to sell him some. Chad called up another friend and got it for him. Two months later, five of Chad’s friends and Chad were arrested for delivery of a controlled substance.
Chad’s parents were very disappointed with him. Chad had broken the law but he needed an opportunity for treatment—not a long jail stint. He also needed legal help from us to stand up for him in court.
Helping clients do the right thing is an important part of our practice. We know what judges look for, how they think and the arguments that will have the most impact on them.
Chad began treatment while his case was pending. Ultimately we worked out an agreement that reduced his charges to a deferred prosecution agreement to a felony but a conviction on a misdemeanor charge. Chad was placed on probation and lost his driver’s license for six months. However, he was able to get an occupational license right away and complete his education. He now has gotten a good job and has a family. Our role in protecting Chad’s future is something I am proud of.
