FOOL FOR A CLIENT STORY
Tom got a ticket and didn’t think much of it until he showed up in court and got a paper with all kinds of fine print saying he could go to jail for nine months or pay a $10,000.00 fine or both. Then he thought he could talk to the prosecutor on his own, but the DA just gave him the brush off and said it wasn’t his case so he couldn’t talk to Tom about it. Tom sat in a hot, humid courtroom for two and one-half hours before his case was finally called. All that happened then was that the clerk gave him another date for a jury trial in four weeks. Tom now had no idea what to do.
Anyone who has tried representing themselves in a criminal case soon understands that it is not as easy as it looks. It takes many years of experience to know when a case ought to be tried and when one ought to be settled.
When we represent a client, we make sure the judge takes it seriously because to our clients it is serious business. Our goal is to keep our clients from becoming another number in the docketing system.
